An overlooked reason the bears won’t let Justin Fields air

for decades, Chicago Bears fans have been asked to be patient with the quarterback position. They are tired of watching other teams enjoy passers-by who can take over matches. When Justin Fields was summoned, they had visions of that dream finally coming true. Outsiders can’t understand the depression of Bears fans watching that game in Green Bay on Sunday night. It’s a movie they’ve seen far too many times. Fields looked uneasy and completely overwhelmed with the responsibilities of his position.

People just want to see him airing. Throw that soccer ball around the yard. Live with the mistakes so he can learn to play at this level. Still offensive coordinator Luke Getsy made it clear that his job is to do what’s right for the Bears. Every game plan is defined by matchup, not a selfish desire to see one player rack up ostentatious stats. If that’s true, Bears fans may have to wait a few weeks before they get a chance to see Fields go wild.

Justin Fields has to take a backseat for the running game.

No, that’s not because Getsy and head coach Matt Eberflus are stuck in the 1950s. It’s for two reasons. The first is that it is the power of the Bears attack. They proved it in Green Bay and trampled the Packers for 180 meters. David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert form a formidable tandem. Second, there is the schedule. There is a consistent correlation between the next four opponents the Bears face. They all have weak ren defenses.

  • Houston – 30th
  • New York – 18th
  • Minnesota – 23rd
  • Washington – 28th

Smart soccer teams do their best to put their strength on the weakness of the opponent. The logical course of action is to attack those four teams with Montgomery and Herbert, even if it means putting Justin Fields on the back burner. This could at least be a blessing in disguise. By not putting all the pressure on the young QB to carry the burden, the Bears will gradually be able to take him along.

Since opponents work harder to stop the run, that should provide better chances to pass. Sometimes the schedule doesn’t match what the fans want. The clear route to winning games in the coming month is on the ground. Expect the bears to take it.
