William Bridges, who won an Emmy for co-writing the “USS Callister” episode of black mirroracts as writer and showrunner for the series, which is in development, with Yann Demange, who helmed the pilot for HBO’s lovecraft country, directing. Both will produce exec.
This project will be a co-production between HBO, Half Beef Studio and quirky films.
Scanners told of a small group of people with a range of psychic, telepathic and telekinetic powers. Cronenberg, who also wrote the original film, will executive produce along with Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer of Media Res Studio and Meredith Duff and Sarah Sullivan of Wayward Films.
Other executive producers include René and Fanny-Laure Malo, Pierre David, Clark Peterson and Aaron Gilbert.
Ellenberg’s Media Res is in development Scanners for over five years. The company is known for taking the time to completely bake shows that then generate buzz and acclaim. Media Res worked on Pachinko for four years before the Apple TV+ series became one of the most acclaimed dramas of 2022.
