How to track an Amazon package

  • You can track most Amazon packages from the Amazon website on your computer or via the mobile app.
  • If the order is sent by Amazon’s own Amazon Logistics, you can see the delivery on a live map on the day of delivery.
  • If you want to track all your orders in a single app — including non-Amazon deliveries — you can use a third-party delivery app as a package or deliveries.
  • Visit the Insiders Tech Reference Library for more stories.

Amazon has evolved into a well-oiled parcel delivery machine that routinely ships more than a million parcels every day. And tracking these packages has become something of a science.

You can easily find the status of your package on a computer or mobile device and in many cases even see where your delivery is on a map in real time.

Here’s everything you need to know about keeping track of your Amazon packages while on your way to your doorstep.

How to track an Amazon package on a computer

1. Navigate to the Amazon site in a browser on your Mac or PC, and make sure you are logged into your account.

Using the Amazon Tracking Card

In many cases, you can track the exact location of your package on the day of delivery. You can see exactly where it is on a map and get a status update indicating how many stops there are from your address.

There are several ways to access the tracking card:

  • Find the tracking information for your delivery on your mobile app by following the steps in the previous section.
  • Tap the delivery message on your phone.
  • Click in the delivery message track your package.

Missing tracking information

It can be a frustrating experience to discover that there is no tracking information for an Amazon package, or the tracking information does not appear to be up to date and accurate. If the estimated delivery date passes without delivery, it is a good idea to wait one or two days before reporting it as a lost package.

Here are the most common reasons why your tracking information may be missing or inaccurate:

  • The package may have reached a regional hub. In some cases, e.g. When there is a very high shipping volume, the first scan for a package may not take place until it arrives at a regional hub near the destination. When this happens, you may not have access to tracking information until very close to the delivery date.
  • Tracking is not available. Some types of shipments, e.g. Standard International, cannot be tracked and you cannot see tracking information before delivery.
  • Tracking delays. Occasionally there are logistical delays in updating the tracking database. This will delay the availability of tracking information.
  • Seller did not provide tracking information. Items sold through the Amazon Marketplace sometimes lack tracking information because Marketplace sellers may not provide Amazon tracking information.

Third-party packages tracking apps

While you can rely on Amazon’s own order tracking tools to keep you informed of your delivery information, you may want to consider using a third-party app instead.

The advantage of third-party apps is that they can gather tracking information for all the major delivery services in the same interface, so you can quickly see the status of all your incoming (and outgoing) packages without changing apps. This is especially useful if you routinely work with FedEx, UPS, and other services outside of Amazon.

Here are the most common third-party packet tracking apps:

  • Parcel is available for both iOS and Android and can track packages from 300 domestic and international delivery services, including Amazon Logistics. The app is free, but some features (including tracking more than three packages at a time) require a $ 3 per year subscription.
  • Deliveries is available for iOS and Android and supports dozens of delivery services from all major US domestic carriers, including Apple and Amazon Logistics. One of the most exciting features of the app is its ability to automatically add estimated delivery dates to your calendar. The app is free, but full access to all the app’s features requires a subscription, currently $ 5 per year.
  • ParcelTrack is available for iOS and Android and supports around 60 delivery services. The app is free, but to unlock all the in-app tracking features, you need to subscribe for $ 3 a year. In addition to standard tracking, it offers “delivery forecasts” that predict delivery times based on airline information.
