HTC is expected to largely unveil its new Vive Flow VR headset on Thursday, but we may already have an idea of what it looks like, thanks to photos posted by productive delicious Evan Blass.
That first series of pictures Blass sent to Twitter appears to show the headset with a tether connection to another device, perhaps something portable like a phone or tablet.
The images also appear to show the device with glasses-like temples going over the ears, rather than the strap found on other VR headsets that extend all the way around the user’s head.
The headset in the photos looks like a striking resemblance to Project Proton, a brand new mixed-reality headset concept that HTC teased in February 2020.that the slimmer, more spectacle-like variation on the Vive would either be a stand-alone headset, a phone-bound headset, or both.
According to HTC CEO Yves Maitre, Proton is part of Vive’s goal of evolving into a headset that more closely resembles a pair of glasses.
HTC did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but we should know more about its plans on Thursday after an event that includes the Go with the Flow tagline. The event starts at 8 PT and will be livestreamed on Vive.com and in VR.
