John Cena’s 21-year streak is about to be broken

John Cena has become a leading man in Hollywood, but that has come at the cost of his WWE scheme.

In 2016, Cena transitioned into a part-time role for the promotion, after being the company’s top star for ten years and on the main roster for 14 years.

Since transitioning to a part-time role, Cena has worked with blockbuster franchises including Fast and Furious and The Suicide Squad, featuring his Peacemaker character from the latter with their own HBO Max series.

Breaking the line

It’s been over a year since John Cena’s last game he played against Roman rule at Summerslam 2021. The 16-time WWE World Champion was unable to dethrone the chieftain last year and has not competed since.

Unless he competes for some time in the next three months, 2022 will have come and gone without John Cena wrestling a match. If so, it will be the first time since 2000 that Cena has not had a sanctioned match for WWE.

Although he would not debut on the main squad until 2022, he had matches for the company in 2001 as part of Ohio Valley Wrestling.

(Thanks to Sean Ross Sapp for pointing out this incredible statistic.)

What’s next for John Cena?

John Cena has not wrestled this year, despite thinking he was up for a match at Summerslam.

In June, Cena celebrated the 20th anniversary of his debut on the list, which came after weeks of Austin Theory take pictures of the former WWE champion online.

Some have speculated that Cena could face Theory at WrestlingMania 39 in Apr 2023.
