Vice President Kamala Harris’ aides and supporters pass on an article from The Onion mocking the Vice President when they feel “annoyed” about her current treatment of the White House, according to a new CNN report.
The article on October 29, titled “The White House urges Kamala Harris to sit at the computer all day if emails get through,” is satire. ‘
“It is natural that those of us who know her know how much more helpful she can be than she is currently being asked to be,” California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis told CNN. “That’s where the frustration comes from.”
For months, businesses including Politico, Axios, CNN and Insider have reported widespread organizational dysfunction and low staff morale within the Vice President’s office. Dissatisfaction has only exacerbated rising tensions and widened the gap between VP’s operation and President Joe Biden’s team and strained Biden and Harris’ personal relationships, CNN reports.
Harris has told allies that she feels “limited” by what she can do in her office, believes she was shut out of the White House’s deliberations on the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan, and is unhappy to be named as the administration’s immigration point – person about the relationship with the nations of the northern triangle of Central America, but not the southern border of the United States, CNN said.
Harris’ top spokeswoman Symone Sanders called it “unfortunate” that “some in the media are focused on gossip – not on the results the president and vice president have delivered” in a statement to CNN.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also did not dispute CNN’s reporting, but defended Harris in a tweet Sunday night, calling her an “important partner” and “bold leader.”

Harris’ portfolio includes immigration, a notoriously thorny policy area that has shattered several presidential administrations before, and voting rights, which have backfired as congressional Democrats have prioritized passing Biden’s economic agenda.
“They consistently send her out there to lose trouble in the wrong situations for her skills,” a Harris ally told CNN.
The award for economic policy means that other cabinet secretaries, including Trade Minister Gina Raimondo and especially Transport Minister Pete Buttigieg, took a more practical role and are now ready to become even more powerful in overseeing the implementation of the legislation, including the distribution of millions in government grants.
A recent poll by USA Today / Suffolk University found that only 28% of Americans surveyed approved of Harris’ performance, the lowest approval rating a vice president has achieved since 2007.
Insiders Robin Bravender and Adam Wren have previously reported that Buttigieg’s supporters and donors are talking him up to run in 2024 against Harris if Biden does not seek another term.
Insider and CNN have also reported that Harris ‘political operation has largely fallen by the wayside, with no similar strategy sessions for a Harris 2024 bid, and Harris’ chief of staff Tina Flournoy strictly controls access to VP. Harris himself has “complained about the lack of support, internally and externally,” CNN reported, with many longtime supporters and donors feeling completely cut off.
“We are really disappointed that it is falling apart,” a Harris donor told Insider about Harris’ political operation. “It does not seem to serve her future.”
