Kingdom Live-Action Movie Sequel confirms release window with new trailer

Kingdom is coming out soon with a new live action movie, and has dropped the first trailer that will be unveiled when the new sequel hits theaters in Japan! Yasuhira Hara’s original manga series has expanded in several ways in recent years. Although the third season of the anime was delayed due to complications from the ongoing COVID pandemic, it was soon revealed that it was such a success that there is now a fourth season in the works. All this time, the latest live-action effort for the franchise has also been in the works.

Originally debuting in Japan in April 2019 before being released internationally later that summer, it was announced the following year that director Shunsuke Sato would return for a new Kingdom film that was currently in the works. It’s been a while since that first announcement, but luckily fans have finally got a first look at Kingdom II: To Distant Lands. Scheduled for a release in theaters in Japan sometime later this summer, you can watch the first trailer for the new movie below:

Shunsuke Sato (who also oversees the live-action projects for Bleach, Gantz, and currently attached to Legendary Pictures’ My Hero Academia film) will direct the new Kingdom film and co-write the film alongside co-creator Yasuhira Hara and One Piece Film: Red writer Tsutomu Kuroiwa. Yutaka Yamada will compose the music for the new film, and the trailer confirms that the former lead trio of Kento Yamazaki, Ryo Yoshizawa, and Kanna Hashimoto will all return to honor Shin, Ei Sei and Ka Ryo Ten. However, this first announcement does not provide a specific release date, nor any confirmation of international release plans as of this writing.

Series maker Yasuhira Hara had this to say when Kingdom II was first officially announced: “A sequel to the live-action film Kingdom is in the works! Thanks to the fact that more people than we could imagine the first saw movie, it led to the sequel. Thank you very much! I had the pleasure of being involved in the long screenplay conference this time as well. Ouki said to Shin, ‘Let’s meet on the battlefield.’ It’s going to be a solid picture of that world. I believe people will enjoy the battlefield and drama that will continue in the history of Japanese movies on a larger scale than the previous movie. The release is still a while away, but please, Everyone, I hope you’re looking forward to it. ”
