NFL 2021 playoff image, standings: Bengals win AFC North, Packers take advantage of NFC home field

The NFL had another crazy week as teams finally started figuring out their playoff fate. The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the AFC North with a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, which significantly shattered the hopes of the Baltimore Ravens’ playoffs (the Ravens lost at least against the Los Angeles Rams).

In the NFC, the Green Bay Packers took matters into their own hands Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings to win the No. 1 seed. The Arizona Cardinals remained alive in the NFC West race with the Rams after they ousted the Cowboys and needed a win and a Rams loss to win the division next week.

The loss of the Chiefs to the Bengals gave the Tennessee Titans the No. 1 spot in the AFC, which Tennessee can win with a win over the Texans in Week 18. The Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos were Sunday eliminated from the playoffs – – eliminate some chaos in the crazy AFC wild card race.

Below you can find a division-by-division breakdown of the current standings and what each competitor on his schedule will face the rest of the way.

Tennessee Titans

What to know: The Titans won the division title with their victory over the Dolphins on Sunday – and hold the No. 1 seed in the AFC with the loss of the Chiefs to the Bengals. Tennessee wins the top seed with a win over Houston in Week 18 as these two scenarios if they lose:

  1. Chiefs loss + Bengals loss + Patriots loss

  2. Chiefs loss + Bengals loss + Bills win

Remaining schedule: by Texans

Indianapolis Colts

What to know: A loss to the Raiders had hung the fate of the Colts in the playoffs in balance, but Indianapolis just needed a win over the Jaguars in Week 18 to close out a spot in the playoffs . The Colts are the No. 6 seed in the conference, even though they have the same record as the Chargers and Raiders. Indianapolis has the best record in conference games and the Chargers who defeated the Raiders earlier this year give Los Angeles the No. 7 spot.

What to know: The Chiefs fell out of the No. 1 seed with a loss to the Bengals and are currently the No. 2 seed as the Titans have the head-to-head tiebreaker. Kansas City needed a win and a loss from Tennessee in Week 18 to get the first round bye.

Remaining schedule: by Broncos

Los Angeles Chargers

What to know: The Chargers eliminated the Broncos from the playoff race with their win. They are currently the No. 7 seed to go with one week, losing a conference record tiebreaker to the Colts, but have the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Raiders – whom they face next week.

Los Angeles wins a playoff spot with a win over Las Vegas.

What to know: Dallas blew its chance on the home field advantage with a loss to Arizona. The Cowboys fall to the No. 4 seed in the NFC with the loss, but have already taken the NFC East.

Remaining schedule: by Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles

What to know: The Eagles took a playoff spot Sunday night, thanks to the Packers defeating the Vikings. Philadelphia needed a victory over Washington, combined with a 49ers victory over the Texans and the Packers victory over the Vikings to close out the place in the playoffs.

The Eagles are still the No. 7 seed since the 49ers owned the head-to-head tiebreaker, but secured a spot in the playoffs for San Francisco because the 49ers’ win over the Texans guaranteed there was no scenario of the Saints, Eagles and 49ers having a three-way tie for the same record. The Saints would gain the strength of scheme tiebreaker for the No. 6 seed and the 49ers would receive the No. 7 seed over the Eagles based on their head-to-head victory earlier this year. That is no longer an option with the 49ers winning.

Remaining schedule: against the Cowboys

What to know: Washington is eliminated from the playoffs with the loss of the football team to the Eagles.

Remaining schedule: by Giants
