Suspect shot, critically wounded during robbery in Chicago Lawn

CHICAGO (CBS) – A man was robbed at gunpoint in Chicago Lawn Thursday afternoon, and one of the robbers was shot, police said.

At 3:52 pm, the 60-year-old victim was walking to his vehicle in the 2800 block of West 66th Street when three men came up and one of them stuck a gun n his back, police said. The other two robbers took his property.

One of the robbers was shot in the back of the head and armpit during the robbery, police said. Police did not specify who was believed to have fired the shots, but a witness who was getting off a bus at the time told CBS 2’s Jermont Terry that it was the victim who fired the shots.

The woman said the victim fired first, after he and the man who had earlier shoved the gun at his back had been facing off with guns pointed at each other.

The robber who was shot was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. Two other suspected robbers were taken into police custody.
