UK to examine cloud services dominated by Amazon, Microsoft and Google

Britain said it would investigate competition in cloud services, a market dominated by “super Amazon” companies, Microsoft and Alphabet’s Google, which together account for about 81% of revenue.

Communications regulator Ofcom also said Thursday that it will examine other digital markets over the next year, including messaging services such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Zoom, connected TVs and smart speakers.

It said that if it concludes that the cloud market is not working well, it can recommend changes to policy, take enforcement action or ask the competition regulator to investigate.

It added that it plans to publish a final report within 12 months.
