When Pac-Man meets OnePlus, green glowing things happen

In my full review of OnePlus Nord 2 I explained why its power, camera and battery performance are beyond what you would expect for such an affordable handset. I also liked its look, though I did not like this new version, which has been re-skinned in collaboration with the 1980s classic, Pac-Man.

At its core, the phone remains unchanged, but the exterior now has a sleek design, studded with Pac-Man Power Pellets that glows an eerie green color when viewed in the dark, revealing a Pac-Man-style maze of ‘North’ branding in the middle.

A more usual, silver-colored back when the light is on.

Turn on your phone and you will find a variety of Pac-Man theme customizations, including pixel art icons and a variety of Pac-Man wallpapers.

Great if you love Pac-Man. Less if you are into other games.

You will also find Pac-Man ringtones and the game Pac-Man 256 pre-installed, which is free to download in the Google Play Store anyway, but hey, saves you the hassle. OnePlus also says that there are various hidden Pac-Man Easter eggs scattered around the phone that you can find that I have not found because I did not want to have to explain to my editor that this is how I have used my work . day.

When you use the on-screen fingerprint scanner, a small Pac-Man animation appears. It’s pretty cute.

There are no hardware upgrades to speak of; the phone has the same screen, processor and camera setup and comes with 256 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM. It will cost £ 499 in the UK (the North Series is not available in the US), which is £ 30 more than the same phone without all the Pac-Man stuff on it. But if you really are into your retro game and need to prove that point with a special edition phone, then it’s probably money well spent.
